Dieren zijn altijd belangrijk geweest voor mensen, als voedselbron, als hulpkracht, als vijand of als vriend. Prehistorische grottekeningen van dieren behoren tot de oudste vormen van kunst. Nog steeds zijn dieren een inspiratiebron voor kunstenaars.
Kunnen wij nog samenleven met wilde dieren of zien wij de natuur als een soort pretpark waar je op zondagmiddag heen gaat? Vinden wij de natuur lastig en beschouwen wij veel dieren en planten als een plaag of verlangen wij naar de wildernis waar wij ooit ook deel van uit maakten?
Mensen dichten dieren vaak menselijke eigenschappen toe.
De slang wordt vaak met het kwaad in verband gebracht, de hond met trouw.
Afbeeldingen van dieren staan dan symbool voor iets anders.
Dat gebeurt soms ook met planten en bloemen. Rode rozen verwijzen naar liefde, klavertjes vier naar geluk en laurier naar roem. De paardenbloem is eigenlijk de ‘underhorse’ van de planten en is ook nog eens een sexloze plant een mooi symbool voor de LHBTIQ-gemeenschap. Enjoy het Dande-Lion City Project dat bij deze expositie van start gaat.

Animals have always been important to humans, as a source of food, a helper, an enemy or a friend. Prehistoric cave drawings of animals are among the oldest forms of art. Still today, animals are a source of inspiration for artists.
Can we still coexist with wild animals or do we see nature as a kind of amusement park you go to on Sunday afternoons? Do we find nature troublesome and consider many animals and plants a plague or do we long for the wilderness we were once part of too?
People often attribute human characteristics to animals.
The snake is often associated with evil, the dog with loyalty.
Images of animals then symbolise something else.
The same sometimes happens with plants and flowers. Red roses refer to love, four leaf clovers to luck and laurel to fame. The dandelion is actually the ‘underhorse’ of plants and is also a sexless plant a nice symbol for the LGBTQ community. Enjoy the DandeLion City Project launched at this exhibition.
